The Sugar Land Legends are bringing men’s professional basketball back to Sugar Land for their second season!  However, this year they are with a new league…the American Basketball Association (ABA). The ABA has grown to be the largest professional basketball league in the US.  When play begins, there will be over 90 teams in cities like NY, LA, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, San Francisco, Sugar Land, and everywhere in between.  Led by returning Head Coach, Calvin Murphy, Jr. (son of NBA Hall of Famer Calvin Murphy), the Sugar Land Legends kick off the 2014-15 season with a home opener against their cross town rival, the Houston Xperience this Sunday, November 16 at 2pm, at the Wheeler Fieldhouse in Sugar Land.  “I’m looking forward to getting this season started.  We’ve got a lot of talent on this team and these young men are ready to compete!” says Coach Murphy, Jr.

Since the franchise began, the Legends have received an overwhelming amount of support from both local and national sponsors.  We are extremely excited about our new partnerships with the Great Oaks Recovery Center, as well as returning sponsors retired NBA Legend Shaquille O’Neal and his DUNKMAN brand and Heavy Construction Systems Specialists, Inc.

The ABA is the most diversified professional basketball league with over 75% of its teams being owned by African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians and women like the owners of the Sugar Land Legends aka the 1994 Investment Group, LLC.  The 1994 Investment Group, LLC is made up of three incredibly dynamic women with a love and passion for sports, business, family and community.  Katrina Chambers (CEO),  Arnetta Yardbourgh (President), and Tamara “TAJ” Johnson-George (COO) collectively bring over 40 years of experience in the sports & entertainment industries.  Katrina as CEO of the PRO-TENTIAL Management Firm (, Tamara as 1/3 of the multi-platinum singing group SWV & WE TV’s “SWV REUNITED” (, and Arnetta (a 20-year Sugar Land resident), CEO of AY & Associates (
